Janesville's Rotary Botanical Gardens is currently presenting a Garden Speaker Series beginning in mid-April.
Next Thursday, April 17, the topic will be Gardening with Climate Change in Mind. UW Extension of Dane County's Lisa Johnson will speak about causes, patterns, and projected climatic trends then turn her attention to more weather-resilient strategies for garden plants and ways to reduce garden carbon footprints.
May 15 will see Wisconsin Master Gardener Jim Gill present Successful Container Gardening. He will be talking about types of containers, growing media, design components, fertilizing, and watering.
Extension Rock County's Julie Hill will present Planting for a Buzz on June 11, with suggestions on types of local pollinators, risk factors, and practices to support pollinator health and habitats.
On July 17, Hill will take her presentation one step further with Balancing Act in the Home Garden. Here, she will discuss how to integrate pest management and pollinator protection. She will cover Integrated Pest Management fundamentals, differences between contact and systemic pesticides, and pollinator toxicity.
The August talk will see naturalist Ann Reilly discuss how to become a Citizen Scientist. Citizen scientists report sightings, survey species, tag animals, and report their findings as part of professional science studies. The date for this will be August 21.
As summer moves to fall, the September 15 topic will be proper tree planting, and on October 16 the series will end with fall gardening tips.
The presentations will take place from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at Rotary Botanical Gardens, 1455 Palmer Drive. Attendees at information speaker series like this often collect Business Cards from presenters.
