What's Happening in Janesville, WI…

Voters gathered on Tuesday this week in an attempt to impeach Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, whom they feel has been a detriment to the state's education system. The rally took place in Rock County Job Center's parking lot in the town of Janesville, Wis. The citizens who attended the rally were in unanimous agreement about one thing: They feel the Wisconsin governor has failed to represent them and want the governor removed.

"Education is our future, and that is being taken away," remarked Heather Jelinek-Hopp, a Janesville resident. "And the economy is going in the wrong direction," she said.

Dan Hopp, a union construction worker and Heather's husband, agreed. "I feel that we're losing a lot of good teachers," Dan said.

Because many people appeared only to sign the petition, which would force a new election next year, before leaving, it was nearly impossible to record how many people actually attended the rally, but the crowd at its peak reached about 100 in total.

Organizers need a staggering 540,000 signatures to force the new election, so they may need to enlist local printing companies, for flyer printing, to increase awareness. The organizers have only 60 days to gather more than half a million signatures from registered voters in Wisconsin.

"This is a day we've waited nine months for," United Wisconsin Organizer Lisa Sheldon said through a megaphone. "We talked the talk," she said, "and now it's time to walk Walker out of office." At this, the crowd cheered.

In addition to Sheldon, a Janesville School District Teacher, Roseann Tank, also spoke out: "I love Wisconsin," she said, "and it breaks my heart what that man has done to this state."

Protesters are hopeful, but gathering the required signatures proves a challenging task.
