Children here in Janesville will get an opportunity to be introduced to the classics when the Beloit Janesville Symphony Orchestra presents “Fantasy Favorites” in a few days.
The concert will feature “Ferdinand the Bull” by Bizet. Edie Baran, a local storyteller, will narrate the tale of the flower-smelling bull that wouldn’t fight. The orchestra will also play “Mother Goose Suite” by Ravel. The suite has five movements. The first is the slow Sleeping Beauty Pavane; the second is the moderately-paced Little Tom Thumb; the third is The Ugly Girl march; the fourth is a Beauty and the Beast waltz and the last is the slow and solemn Fairy Garden.
“Toy Symphony” by Hayden should delight the children with it toys used as instruments, and the nightingale, and cuckoo.
Other popular pieces on the program will include “Appalachian Spring” by Copland and “Creation du Monde” by Milhaud.
Children’s events such as this make use of brochure printing and will often put special children-themed graphics in their program.
Tickets will be $20 for adults, $5 for students and children under the age of 16 get in free. A generous patron of the arts is donating 50 adult tickets, one each to the first 50 adults who bring four or more children with them to the event.
The Beloit Janesville Symphony Orchestra: Fantasy Favorites will be March 21st from 7:30 pm until 10:00 pm at the Janesville Performing Art Center, 408 S. Main Street.
