This is Black History Month, and in its honor, Blackhawk Technical College (6004 S. County Road G) will be presenting its Soul Food Luncheon. Proceeds will go to minority student scholarships in the Janesville and Beloit area.
The Soul Food Luncheon will not be an in-person event, but food can be pre-ordered and picked up curbside.
This year’s menu will include macaroni and cheese, creamy coleslaw, candied yams, sugar glazed ham. Also on the menu will be collard greens, barbecued back ribs, herb baked chicken, rolls, and corn bread. Dessert will be peach cobbler and red velvet cupcakes.
Tickets for the public and college staff will be $12 and $10 for seniors and students of the college. The deadline for tickets will be this Tuesday, February 16th. Times for pickup will be arranged during the purchase process.
A Soul Food Luncheon online silent auction will be running on the college’s Facebook page until Monday, February 22 at noon.
Some items up for bid will be two months free fitness memberships, two personal training sessions, Lamar personal billboard, beef assortment from Arndt Farms, a get-away-weekend package with a value of $650, natural wellness products totaling $700 in value, and baskets containing cocktail bar items and other goodies. Many businesses that participate in these auctions often put Business Cards in with the items.
Soul Food Luncheon will take place Tuesday, February 23 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. Tickets can be purchased at the event website.
