The building that houses the Wisconsin Historical Museum in Madison is set to undergo construction work that is expected to be completed in 2026.
The work will begin in 2024. Once it is finished, the historical center will reopen on the site where the Wisconsin Historical Museum currently sits and will be expanded to take up the space on two adjacent properties. When the museum reopens, it will have double the space for its exhibitions and offer more programs designed for school groups, including those in nearby areas like Fitchburg.
While the museum prepares for the start of construction, the staff will begin moving the artifacts in the exhibits into safe storage spaces located at the State Archive Preservation Facility. The museum’s exhibitions are closing down in phases that started with the third and fourth floors being closed in September. The second floor was closed at the end of November.
The public was able to enjoy the second-floor exhibitions for the last time on November 27. The visitors turned up to participate in the last tour of a popular exhibit knowns as “The People of the Woodlands.” Printing services can be used to create Infographics for exhibits like this.
The museum has taken steps to provide special exhibitions and programs at other locations during the two-year changeover period. The last school tours to the museum are expected to happen in December and the museum’s retail store will still be open in 2023.
