Flex Lane's first year shows quicker and safer journeys

Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) recently released data that revealed significant improvements in travel times on the Madison Beltline during peak hours.

Last year, Wisconsin proudly unveiled its inaugural Flex Lane on the Beltline near Fitchburg. This innovative lane, stretching from the I-39/90 interchange Whitney Way, has been successfully serving commuters and travelers since its launch.

According to the report, there has been a reduction of up to 45% in travel times since the implementation of the Flex Lane. Initial readings of crash data also indicate a notable decrease of over 20% in the total number of accidents along the Beltline during the Flex Lane's first year. These findings highlight the positive impact and success of the lane in enhancing both efficiency and safety on this vital roadway. Print shops can be used to circulate positive information like this and keep people driving safely.

Craig Thompson, the WisDOT Secretary, said:

“Over the past year, we’ve seen a considerable reduction in travel times along the Madison Beltline. Data is showing what drivers are witnessing firsthand – the Flex Lane is making travel on the Beltline more efficient and reliable.”

In an ongoing collaboration with local stakeholders, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is actively exploring various transportation options linked to the Beltline. Beyond the Flex Lane, WisDOT is studying additional strategies to meet the present and future needs of the Beltline.
