As per a news release from PHMDC dated August 24th, PFAS chemicals are prevalent in the surroundings. These substances, also referred to as "forever chemicals," exhibit limited degradation or alteration. Exposure to them can occur through the atmosphere, soil, and potable water. Flyer printing can be used to share information about public health and any initiatives being offered.
A specialist in environmental health, Chee Thao, talked about how experts are still learning new things about these chemicals. Thao commented:
“Increasing access to well testing will not only help us get a better idea of the amount of PFAS in private wells but more importantly, helps homeowners make informed decisions for their health.”
Public Health, in collaboration with Pace Analytical Services, is providing testing to residents residing outside of Madison, funded by the county. This complimentary service will remain accessible until the allocated funding is exhausted or June 2024, whichever comes sooner.
In normal cases, these tests come with a price tag of several hundred dollars. Thanks to this funding, they are now available at no cost to eligible individuals in Fitchburg. Eligibility criteria are determined by income and household size. Those interested can apply to lab@publichealthmdc.com.
