In late April, Fitchburg Common lawmakers and city officials had a discussion with developers about the possibility of redeveloping Bowman Plaza.
They also talked about changing the zoning of the area to allow for a building that would hold Fitchburg's tallest structure. The seven-story high-rise would have a business area, two levels for parking, and five stories for residential purposes. Construction would be carried out at the same time as the revamping of the nearby City on a Hill church. Official proposals in cases like this tend to feature Letterheads.
Decision makers also granted a plea to combine eight plots into one, which will aid auto dealers situated at 2300 Rimrock Road. Furthermore, alteration of zoning laws for a parcel in Hartung Fields was agreed upon, meaning townhouses available for rent can be built.
During the meeting, the Council gave the Fitchburg Fire Department an engine purchase contract. Gabrielle Gerhardt, who is the Alder for District 2, expressed that paying in full would bring the total cost down by 16%. The city will have to pay around $900,000 for this engine.
The Council has also given a nod to over $9m in general obligation promissory notes for the purpose of funding renovations at the police station and fire response’s new location. Alder Jay Allen from District 3 expressed concern that approval has yet to be received for the law enforcement facility proposal. However, Mayor Julia Arata-Fratta said an amended design will be available by the end of this month. Greg Johnson, Senior Municipal Advisor, highlighted the chance to utilize fund notes for different aims.
