Civic Campus gets recognition for cyclist accessibility

The League of American Bicyclists has awarded the Civic Campus of Fitchburg the title of Gold Bicycle Friendly Business.

The BFB program honors companies that provide their staff, clients, and visitors with safe, practical, and fun biking options. The City Hall, elder and community facilities, library, and local police department are all housed at the Civic Campus, which is situated on Lacy Road. More than a thousand visitors per week are said to visit the site, which is staffed by about 175 city workers.

Mayor Arata-Fratta and municipal manager Chad Brecklin received the honor on behalf of the city from a former mayor, Steve Arnold. Steve Arnold went on to say:

“Being a bicycle friendly business means that you are encouraging employees and guests, of which there are thousands every week here – especially on election day – to ride their bicycles.”

In order to demonstrate how easy it is to use the new bike-sharing program in Fitchburg, Arnold brought one of the city's brand-new BCycles with him to the council meeting. Phase two of BCycle's expansion into the region includes adding more electric-assist bicycles. They are now available at a number of stations. A Logo Design could be used to let people know which business is operating certain programs.

The Fitchburg Public Library is close to the city's newest BCycle station. Along with the areas chosen for phase 2, more docks and bicycles will be introduced to this region.
