Wilderness survival class to be hosted near Burlington

The Wilderness Survival Level 1 workshop is set to continue close to Burlington this February.

The Boston Outdoor School will be hosting this beginner’s outdoor skills class. The school features a variety of public and private classes around Massachusetts that teach students wilderness survival strategies.

Anyone in the area who wishes to learn wilderness survival skills can register for the Level 1 workshop online at $70 per person for either of the two available dates. Participants are advised to bring a snack and water, and to dress in clothing suitable for the outdoors. All class attendees must be free of symptoms, practice social distancing, and wear facemasks.

Instructor Tim Swanson will lead this bimonthly event throughout the next month. In the space of three hours, participants from Burlington will learn basic skills including how to sterilize water for drinking, tie four different knots, dress well for the outdoors, sharpen and use a knife, create a shelter from a tarp, hunt with minimal weapons, find edible plants, read a compass, and build a fire using a single match. The organizers of such in-person events often use flyer printing to create informative handouts for attending students.

This backcountry survival class for beginners is scheduled to occur in Saugus on Sunday, February 7 and Saturday, February 13 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm on both days.
