The grant was given to Junior Achievement (JA) of Wisconsin. JA’s president, Michael Frohna, officially received the grant with a statement where he said that the grant makes it possible for his organization to deliver lessons in a manner that matches how the Racine Unified School District delivers its lesson plans. His statement also said:
“It’s more important now than ever before to make sure our young people are prepared for the future. The grant from SC Johnson will allow Junior Achievement to deliver content in new ways.”
JA programs are designed to give simplified lessons on important yet often overlooked life skills such as managing personal finance and developing a career. The students in Racine County cities such as Burlington will be taught numerous topics such as figuring out credit scores and how to prepare for job interviews. The students are taught by recruits and trained volunteers, who deliver a total of 60 programs to students all over the county from grades K to 12. JA has recently developed a system for distance learning that will be used during the current fall semester. Programs for students in middle and high school are expected to be available online in the near future.
