Slips and falls are a common cause of injuries for seniors in Burlington, and a workshop that has been planned for the area will give attendees knowledge they can use to help them stay safe.
The Stepping On, Fall Prevention seminar will teach those who participate an assortment of measures they can take to prevent falls. They will learn about the importance of vision and balance, the role some medications can play in causing these types of injuries, how to shop for safe shoes and other footwear, how to make their homes as “fall proof” as possible and more. They will also discover steps that can take to be safe when they are out in the community and simple exercises they can undertake that will strengthen their core muscles and improve their sense of balance.
The class is open to anyone who is at least 60 years of age or older. It been brought to the community courtesy of Aurora Health Care. Those who organize an event like this can use booklet printing to produce handouts that can provide more information to anyone who participates.
The fall prevention workshop has been scheduled for March 1st from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. It will be held in the Aurora Wellness Center, and additional details and an opportunity to register to take part can be found on the Burlington Chamber of Commerce’s website.
