The city started generating and sending tax bills to property owners on December 14. Complications brought on by the recent pandemic meant that municipal offices are closed and people will not be able to pay their bills in the usual manner. The city is therefore offering alternative payment, methods such as online payments.
The deadline for making the first or minimum payment is usually January 31, but since that falls on a Saturday this year, it has been pushed to February 1.
Steve DeQuaker, the city’s Finance Director, stated:
“Payments mailed to the city must be postmarked by February 1, 2021, in order to be considered paid on time by the county. Dropbox payments will be stamped received. [The] dropbox will be checked frequently throughout the day.”
Other officials, such as Brian Graziano, are encouraging people to use the dropbox located at the main entrance of the Town Hall in order to minimize physical contact with staff. The receipts will be sent by mail. Residents who include email addresses with their payments will receive their receipts electronically. Individuals can identify which authority sent them a letter thanks to their Letterheads.
There will be a 2.75% processing fee for online payments. Cash should not be dropped in the drop-in box, and it is only for residents of Burlington. Payments for other utilities, such as water and electricity bills, should not be put in the dropbox.
