Burlington workshop to shine a light on youth depression

Parents, educators and others who interact with youth have been invited to take a seat in a Burlington workshop that will be sharing insights into depression, how it can affect young people, and also possible choices when it comes to treatment and other supports.

Dr. Taylor and Dr. Langley will be leading the group, and the goal is to provide practical, evidence-based advice for recognizing and treating depression. The attendees will walk away with skills they can use themselves, as well as knowledge that they can share with their children, students, or other youth they work with.

The presentation will include tips for recognizing the symptoms of depression early, and will also include resources that exist in the community and can help. Strategies will be shared for helping children to be resilient, and information will be provided about treatment options, including medication and group and individual therapy.

This free learning opportunity will run for two hours, and anyone who feels they can make good use of the information is welcome. It will be held in the Aurora Wellness Center, and its start time has been set for 6:00 pm. Booklets and other publications can be prepared to distribute during this sort of function by a brochure printing company.

The ‘Helping Children and Adolescents Cope with Depression’ workshop is being offered on December 11. It has been organized by Lori Radtke, who is a school social worker for the Burlington area School District.
