The city of Burlington was recently recognized for its efforts to become more energy efficient.

The Focus on Energy program, which is run by the state to help encourage a reduction in electricity use and the selection of renewable sources of power, presented the city with a check for $26, 486.

This incentive check was given due to the fact that Burlington has installed digital HVAC controls in the fire station, city hall, the public works building, and the library. This will allow the temperature in these facilities to be controlled automatically, which will cut electricity usage and improve the comfort of the people using the buildings.

Along with these new controls, a new and much more efficient well pump was installed, which uses 50% less energy than the old one.

It is expected that these two measures will save the city more than 7,788 therms of natural gas and 505,949 kilowatt hours of electricity per year, which translates into a saving of $55,089 annually.
