Van Wie donations earmarked for food pantries
Board members of a charity based in Wisconsin Dells made a trip to Baraboo where they handed out donations to non-profits in the area that are helping people deal with the hardships brought on by the pandemic.
These donations came from the Gregory C. Van Wie Charitable Foundation. It was established in memory of Gregory Van Wie who passed away in 1996 and sends funds to charity organizations in need. $15,000 was given to the Baraboo Food Pantry, Beyond Blessed Food Pantry got $11,000, and the St. Clare Foundation received $20,000. Non-profits tend to receive many corporate gifts and donations around the holidays.
The Baraboo Food Pantry’s president mentioned how happy he was to have the donation help them reach their targets during a period when the demand has gone up. The pantry is run by volunteers and it was serving about 700 people every month before the pandemic. The strain brought on by the pandemic has caused that number to rise to more than 1000 a month.
Penny Johnson from the Kids Ranch, another organization that received donations to support its programs in the past, said:
With 2020 being what it was, the board at the charity foundation felt that it would be wiser to donate money to food pantries in particular.

“This means the world to us. So, we’re so grateful for the Van Wie Foundation and their willingness to continue to fund our mental wellness program.”
