Developers taking suggestions for school renovations
Project leaders working on the renovation and addition at Jack Young Middle School in Baraboo are now working on construction documents for the project.
The designs come from Eppstein Uhen Architects. The project manager, Bob Vajgrt, said that several changes may still have to be made during the three months that it will take to put together the details and specifications into a format that a contractor can use. Despite the changes expected, the core elements will remain the same. He went on to say:
“We haven’t quite finalized everything, but we have a general idea of what the finishes are going to be. We have a pretty good idea of what things look like within the building, as well.”
The design team has been asking the school’s staff for their thoughts on how the school should be designed. The staff gave the project leaders ideas on how to lay out the classrooms and gave suggestions about how much cabinet space they will need. Brochure printing for such projects tend to feature timelines on expected completed dates.
Students were also given the chance to voice their opinions. Some of the ideas from students included adding a nature trail and providing shaded seating. Having more space for socializing was high on the list of suggestions from students.
Suggestions from the art teacher convinced the project managers to combine several classrooms in order to make a new art room that will have more utility.
