Jacob Carignan is the proud recipient of a scholarship worth $10,000. The scholarship is awarded by the Herb Kohl Educational Foundation, and is called the Student Excellence Award. Only three other students from Baraboo have won this award in the last 10 years.
An award such as this is an example of a corporate gift or donation designed to help the local community. Lori Mueller, the District Administrator, was thrilled to have such a prestigious honor go to a student in her jurisdiction. She sent out an email where she said:
“Jacob represents a student who has made the most of every opportunity provided to him in his time in the School District of Baraboo. We are thrilled to see this recognition for him.”
The award is given to students who have demonstrated high levels of academic achievement, are actively engaged in community support programs, and take up leadership roles in positions outside of academic settings. The Foundation aims to help the youth from Wisconsin pursue higher education opportunities in vocational school, university, or college.
A committee that comprises civic leaders, the program’s co-sponsors, and representatives picked from associations involved in education is tasked with choosing the award’s recipients.
