Baraboo has a strong team of runners called the Thunderbirds. They have been meeting up every weekday over the summer to train together in preparation for the coming cross country running season. A group of 14 girls make up the team and it is led by five seniors who are Cece Oettinger, Molly Stewart, Ana Valez, Sonia Tomas, and Marie Fadeyeva.
Together, they ran a total of 340.72 miles over the course of the summer. Stewart is the head of the team and she is hoping to have a better season this year after snow and sickness made it difficult for her during the Badger North Conference meet, and the WIAA Division 1 Madison West sectional where she finished 18th and 32nd consecutively. She fared much better at the Badger North track and field meets back in spring.
Businesses that wish to support the Thunderbirds or other local teams can give them Promotional Products, such as gloves and socks.
The Thunderbirds’ head coach, Julie Faylona, is looking forward to seeing how much better Stewart and the team will perform this season. She went on to say:
“Molly Stewart always comes into the season with drive and excitement. She is one that just loves to run. Her passion is contagious within the team and, hopefully, this will motivate everyone to bring their best.”
The T-Birds have now have a smaller team than they did last season, but Faylona believes that their dedication to the cause will make up for that.
