Event aims to keep Vancouver beautiful
Vancouver residents have another chance to help beautify their community.
The City of Vancouver’s Department of Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services is very active, working to support over 2,200 acres of park land, 28 pieces of public art, 82 parks, more than 20 miles of trails, 28 natural areas, and two community centers. It also sponsors the Adopt-A-Park program, where staff members work with volunteers to keep the city’s parks beautiful.
A new event in this effort is coming up, as volunteers can help clean up St. Helens Park. This is a small community park that covers about three acres, and features a large, green lawn and mature trees. Volunteers will be picking up debris, leaves, and spreading mulch on landscape beds and around trees. Mulching may require that volunteers twist, turn, use a shovel, or push a wheelbarrow. Instruction sheets are often provided to people working at tasks like this, and organizers can contact a printing services expert to provide them.
Every effort is made to ensure these cleanup activities can accommodate those with physical limitations. In this case, the park is accessible to wheelchair users, and the surroundings are peaceful and quiet. Anyone who needs more information or accommodation should contact the department.
The St. Helens Park cleanup is scheduled for December 7, from 10.00 am until 1.00 pm. The park is located at 4007 East 13th Street. Organizers will provide snacks, water, tools, gloves, and appropriate training for the volunteers. Registration is required.
