Spokane Valley offers Cool Camp

The Parks & Recreation Department in Spokane Valley is gearing up for two Cool Camp sessions for children 6-11 that are scheduled during the schools' winter break.

The first session is the Hip, Hip Holiday camp, which requires kids to get out their swimsuits—in the middle of winter. Participants will take a field trip to swim in the indoor, heated pool at the Spokane Valley YMCA, and enjoy other activities. The camp runs for three days, and costs $95 per child.

The second session is the Winter Wonderland camp. The highlight of this four-day camp is a trip to Eagles Ice Arena to go skating. Registration is $110 per child, which includes all activities, plus skate rental.

Parents are asked to provide lunches and snacks for children, since the camps are full-day sessions, and dress the little ones warmly.

The Hip, Hip Holiday camp is slated for December 20 to 22, from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm each day. If necessary, arrangements can be made for extended care for a child, from 7:15 am until 5:45 pm.

Winter Wonderland will take place December 26 to 29, from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm each day. Once again, extended care is available for 45 minutes at the beginning and end of each day.

Parents can register their kids online at www.spokanevalley.org/recreation, or by phone at (509) 720-5200.

Officials can make programs like this understandable by working with a flyer printing company to create a handout for parents.
