Public agencies and nonprofit organizations in Spokane Valley can apply to the city for funds to hold tourist-oriented marketing events and other activities in 2019.
The money to be awarded comes from Spokane Valley's Lodging Tax. The city will accept proposals for activities designed to bring visitors to Spokane Valley from outside the area in order to enjoy local recreational activities, restaurants, shops, and hotels.
Marketing efforts to bring in tourists that are likely to win approval include operations and marketing of festivals and special events; capital expenditures and operations of facilities related to tourism; and facilities designed to encourage tourism that are operated or owned by nonprofit organizations.
In 2017, a total of nine organizations were given funding in amounts from $2,000 to $70,000 to help them put on local festivals and fairs, sporting events, and other attractions.
Applicants should review the city’s Lodging Tax Grant Application for specific guidelines. Those putting their names forward for programs like this could include Business Cards with the application to make their contact information easily available.
Applications, along with any supporting information the applicant would like to submit, are due by 4:00 pm this Friday, October 5 at the latest.
