Puyallup workshop to teach basics of home canning

A Puyallup workshop will teach the basics of canning, and it will be held in plenty of time to take advantage of the upcoming harvest season.

Whether they would like to live a more sustainable lifestyle or just want to enjoy creating in the kitchen, The Fruitland Grange’s Canning Basics class will welcome a variety of learners. Admission is by donation, and the function is one of a variety of educational opportunities that the host has on offer.

The workshop will introduce a variety of canning methods and equipment, and the group will be taught how to ensure that the technique they use produces results that are tasty and safe to eat. In the description of the activity, the organizers explained that preserving produce at home is often a thrifty way to make the most of what is available from farmers’ markets or the attendee’s own garden.

Preserving food for future use has been making a revival, and community-based classes offer a way for the public to get started. Recipe Booklets and cards, as well as pre-printed jar labels and other items for a workshop, may all be obtained from area brochure printing companies.

The Fruitland Grange will be running this learning session on May 25 starting at 6:30 pm. Anyone who is interested can add their name to the list by visiting its Eventbrite page.
