What's Happening in Puyallup, WA…

Puyallup workshop makes most of summers bounty

As Puyallup heads into another harvest season, a workshop will be teaching local home horticulturists, and anyone else who is interested, how to make the most of the bounty.

A free community class that will introduce the art and science of food dehydration will be on offer this August at the Fruitland Grange. It will teach how to prepare nutrient-rich foods with a long shelf life, and it will be taught by a subject matter expert.

Attendees will learn how to choose which fruit, vegetables, and other foods they have grown or purchased to dehydrate, and different drying methods will be discussed. Everyone will learn about the various types of dehydrators on the market and how to choose the one that is best for them, and long-term storage tips for the finished products will be shared as well. No pre-registration is required to take part, and attendees are advised to take notes.

More people are becoming interested in living a sustainable lifestyle, and workshops can help point the way. Customized learning materials for this kind of activity can be prepared by print shops that offer graphic design services.

This opportunity to get the inside scoop on the benefits of food dehydrating will begin at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, August 13. It will be on offer at 11102 86th Avenue in Puyallup.
