Locals to experience the joys of Renaissance living

The Washington MidSummer Renaissance Faire is taking place over three separate weekends next month. It is a presentation of the Washington Renaissance Arts and Education Society.

Each weekend will have a different theme; pirates, fairies, and His Majesty’s Royal Masquerade.

There will be lots of activities going on, including jousting, fencing demonstrations, and sword fighting displays. There will also be country dancing, puppet shows, and magicians. Guests will get to enjoy a variety of food and drinks, watch demonstrations of skills such as blacksmithing, and play some traditional games.

Music will be provided by several groups, including the Music Bog Hoppers and BOWI. Camel rides will also be available. Merchants will also be on hand over all three weekends.

Those running the festival will be dressed in Renaissance costumes and those attending are encouraged to do the same.

There are several choices of admission at the festival. Fees for adults are $19 per day or $36 for a weekend, for seniors it is $15 or $28, and for children between the ages of 6 and 17 fees are $13 or $22. A family pass is available for $50 per day, $75 for a weekend, or $200 for the entire fair. Camping is also available onsite.

Banners will probably be hung all over Puyallup advertising this summer fair, which will be held at Kelley Farm on August 6 to 7, 13 to 14, and 20 to 21. Call 1-800-587-0172 for more information.
