Olympia workshop to provide apiary introduction

Beekeeping is becoming a hobby worth enjoying even in suburban and urban environments, and Olympia residents have been invited to find out what the buzz is all about.

Olympia Timberland Library, which can be found at 313 8th Street SE, will be welcoming the public for an introduction to the art and science of keeping bees. The workshop is intended to help those who take part decide if the hobby is right for them, and it will also provide tips for caring for these beneficial insects in other ways.

The class will pack a lot of information into a small amount of time, and anyone age nine or older is welcome. Admission will be free, and it will run for two hours. Assistance with the function has been provided by the Olympia Beekeepers Association.

Along with the opportunity to be part of the introduction to apiary practices, attendees will be invited to check out the library’s Bee Backpacks. These are filled with a variety of Promotional Products and other materials related to bees and helping to protect these important pollinators.

This chance to learn about the basics of beekeeping from some local subject matter experts will be on offer on Tuesday, July 9. It will run from 3:30 pm until 5:30 pm. The organizers can be contacted at zhavekost@trl.org.
