From printmaking workshops to family-friendly festivals, there will be something to do for people of all ages in Olympia this summer.
Happening all summer through September 7 is the Summer Splash Festival of Fun. Taking place at the Hands On Children's Museum at 414 Jefferson Street NE, the festival has different activities every week, including circus performers, parrots that roller skate, and a 25-foot rock wall. Tickets are $19.95 online.
Before banner printing, there was stereoscope printmaking. On Monday, June 29 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm, people can visit the Olympia Timberland Library at 313 8th Avenue SE to learn how to create images with a 100-year-old stereoscope. Guests can also learn about creating 3D effects and can build their own postcard. This is a free class.
On Friday, July 3 from 1:30 pm to 6:30 pm, Olympians can enjoy native storytelling with Itsa Shash. The Indigenous storyteller uses social stories, poetry, and music to celebrate his culture and introduce others to it. Tickets start at $3.
Music in the Park, Olympia's family fun night, happens on Wednesday, July 8 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm this year. Sylvester Park, located at 615 Washington Street SE, along with the Olympia Downtown Alliance, host live bands from the community. The free concerts often see people dancing or relaxing with picnic takeout dinners from local restaurants.
