The winter months can sometimes be a slow season for a small or medium farm. A workshop on the agenda for Olympia will help farmers discover how they can make the most of their February by offering them a chance to brush up on their risk management practices.
Using proper risk management techniques can help to protect any business, including a family farm, from loss. The organizers noted that the time to prepare this plan is before it is needed, and they will guide the participants through the process of creating one that is customized to each of their unique needs.
Garden Raised Bounty will be hosting the afternoon, and it will be organized by staff from Tilth Alliance. The class will discuss crop insurance, including which kind may be the best choice for a particular operation. They will also review the components of a strong risk management plan, and the group can ask any questions and share their own best practices which they have developed through experience.
At the end of the afternoon, hors d’oeuvres will be served, and the assembled group will have an opportunity to socialize, meet other farmers, and build a strong sense of community. Area Print shops will be able to supply texts and any other printed materials need for this type of event.
