Olympia’s WET Science Center will be hosting an event that will feature octopuses and shine a spotlight on these shy but intelligent creatures.
Eight Arms, Three Hearts, One Saturday: Discovering Octopuses will highlight all things to do with the sea-based creatures. Those who participate will learn all about them, including how and why they change color, what the texture of their skin is like, and their life cycle and role in the marine ecosystem. The presentation will also cover how they have adapted to their changing environment, and how they use their intelligence to survive the challenges their face.
In addition to the presentation, there will a be a variety of hands-on activities to enjoy, and throughout the day, artwork that has been inspired by these gentle creatures will be created in the facility’s classrooms. A Print company will be able to supply an assortment of handouts and other educational materials related to octopuses that can be distributed to everyone who takes part in the day’s programming.
The event will be held on February 8 at the WET Science Center, which can be found at 500 Adams Street NE in Olympia. It is family friendly and has been designed to appeal to people of all ages.
