Even in an urban setting, Mother Nature finds a way to provide food for those who enjoy foraging, and an Olympia outing will introduce the public to these edible plants.
The walking workshop will explore how many plants people think of as pesky weeds can actually be quite tasty and healthy, and it will be led by an experienced guide. Everyone is advised to wear comfortable walking shoes and to dress appropriately for the weather.
During the walk, the facilitator will point out edible species. She will discuss how to forage ethically and what rules and regulations may apply to the practice. The importance of being sure about plant ID and other safety measures will be reviewed, and tips for preparing a feast of wild veggies are on the agenda as well. There will be time for the attendees to ask questions, and the ticket price for the excursion is $7 each.
As more people become interested in learning about sustainable living, foraging classes have become increasingly popular. Tip sheets and other learning materials for an educational workshop like this can be prepared by a local printing services company.
The Olympia Food Co-op Garden Center will be serving as the meet-up point for the Urban Foraging session. It is scheduled for September 9th, and will head out at 12:30 pm.
