What's Happening in Olympia, WA…

A downtown Olympia shelter for the homeless that also provides them with three meals a day, seven days a week, recently received a donation that will aid it in the efforts of its volunteers to help the less fortunate.

According to volunteer Ralph Munro, though people have been very generous in their donations of food, a vital component was running low; it was running short of silverware. Fortunately, he and the restaurant in Panorama, which is an area retirement community, came to the rescue.

Munro, who is a member of the Panorama board, knew that the food service facility was being renovated, and that the cutler, dishes, and other utensils were being replaced. He gave the community’s President and CEO, Mr. Di Santo, a call.

Di Santo reported that as many as 250 place settings might be available, and arrangements were made for them to be donated to the shelter. Monthly publications, produced by local newsletter printing services, can be sent out to those who support charities like this through their donations, volunteering, or other means, to let them know about such acts of generosity.

Di Santo brought the contribution in himself so he could present it in person. While he was there, he also helped to serve those who came in need of a meal. He noted that it felt rewarding to be able to get behind the serving counter and help.
