Many people appreciate mushrooms and other edible fungi for their culinary and nutritional benefits, and those who attend an Olympia workshop will find out how they can grow them in their own home.
The session has been planned to help kick off the Olympia Food Co-op’s decision to start carrying starter kits for growing mushrooms in its Westside Garden Center. The planners remarked that these were previously only sold by mail order, and they are proud to now be able to offer them to their customers ‘in store’.
Fungi Perfecti’s Loni Jean Ronnebaum , who is well versed in the art of growing mushrooms and has a BSc in Mycology, will aid in leading the workshop. The agenda will include details of how they can be grown in the home using sustainable and low-tech methods, and there will also be details shared about how this can be a good choice for people and the overall global environment.
There is no charge to take part in this learning opportunity, but anyone who would like to be included has been asked to register ahead of time. Handouts for an event like this can be produced by area Print shops.
This introduction to the joys of growing fresh mushrooms at home will be offered on August 5 at 2016 Elliott Avenue Northwest. It is open to anyone who is interested.
