An event that will combine home horticulture with some basic pottery making techniques will be offered in Olympia, and the learning will take place over a two-class span.
The students in the Houseplant Pottery classes will be making one-of-a-kind homes for the plants in their home, and it will introduce them to some of the fundamental techniques used by potters. Once they have been cleaned and decorated, they will be fired and made ready for pick up, and the fee per class is $7.
The students will be walked through the steps of preparing pinch pots as well as ones crafted using slab and coil-built methods. They will learn how to add decorative components, and the second session will be dedicated to glazing the pieces. The instructor for the activity will be Joelle Montez, who is a local potter.
An introductory class gives those who participate a chance to see if a particular activity is right for them. A poster printing company can help to spread the word about an activity throughout the local area.
This beginner-friendly pottery class series is scheduled to begin on Monday, February 6, with the second class following on Monday, February 13. The items will be ready for pickup on Friday, February 17. The session will be held at 610 Columbia Street South West.
