Access to a clean source of water is essential to almost all living things. An upcoming Olympia area symposium will offer water utilities from across the state actionable steps they can take to ensure they are well prepared in times of drought.
The United States Environmental Protection Agency has organized a conference that will provide opportunities for managers of water utilities from all over Washington to come together to both learn and share best practices.
The goal is to offer practical tips and solutions that can help the delegates ensure that they are well prepared should a drought occur, and there will also be a discussion about how a community can respond and recover to this type of emergency.
The speakers at the conference will be touching on several topics, ranging from a review of any drought conditions currently being experienced in the state, to case studies of responses to this emergency that have occurred in the past. There will be an introduction to ‘Drought Response and Recovery: A Basic Guide for Water Utilities’, which has been published by the Environmental Protection Agency, and facilitated group discussions have also been planned.
Those who attend the conference may qualify for continuing education credits, and it may be possible for those who would like to attend but cannot do so in person to participate via distance learning.
