Upcoming contest focuses on local photographers
The Photo Contest and Show, presented by the Monticello Camera Club and Longview Recreation, is taking place early in November.
The contest is open to both adults and youth; the divisions are adult amateur, adult advanced (for professionals), and youth (Grade 12 and under) for printed photos. Digital photography simply has adult and youth divisions.
There are several categories as well, including Still Life, General Interest, City of Longview Parks, and Macro. The works are judged on technical quality, composition, lighting, and presentation. The cost for adults is $6 per print or $25 for five, and $3 each for youth; there is no limit to the number of photographs that can be entered.
This contest may bring out people who are currently employed by local print companies in Longview, either as entrants or just to get an idea of the photographic talent in the community.
Those interested are asked to drop off their photographs (which must be properly mounted) on November 2 and 3 at the McClellan Center. This will be followed by an awards reception on November 7 of winners in each division and category, along with the presentation of ribbons. The public will choose the ‘People's Choice’ winner. Then, all of the photographs will be displayed at the Center from November 8 to 9. The winning items will be on display at the Longview Public Library from November 12 to December 2.
