Run/walk planned for Lacey

A 5K run/walk is planned for Lacey and organizers are inviting people to participate in person, or virtually if they prefer.

Thrive Community Fitness is teaming up with the Lacey Joggernauts to host a run/walk to help support the American Legion Auxiliary in Lacey. The event is not a timed run and is meant to honor service personnel who have given their lives to the nation.

Due to the pandemic, the event will be mostly virtual, though small groups are planning to meet in person, with proper health precautions in place. Those who do participate on the day will wear masks and keep a safe distance from one another. Participants will begin the race at the same time, but as this is not a competitive event, they may finish at their own pace. Those who choose to run a virtual race may cover the distance anywhere they choose.

Participants will be given a red poppy for their lapel, a small flag, an event BIB, and a medal commemorating the event. The American Legion has promoted wearing the poppy as a symbol of remembrance since World War One.

The event is taking place May 29, during the Memorial Day weekend. Those who plan to participate in person should meet at the Thrive Community Fitness Center at 9.00 am. The event is family-friendly and open to everyone—even babies and leashed dogs are welcome. Banner printing can be used to create course markers for outdoor events like this.
