An innovative facility in Lacey recently began offering public tours, which will continue for the foreseeable future.

Lacey MakerSpace is inviting anyone interested in the space to take a tour. They will be able to see the tools, examine the shop in detail, ask questions, and see if the space provides what they need to complete their project, which may include launching a new business.

Maker spaces are a fairly recent concept, and refer to a separate workspace inside a library or school, or an entirely separate facility, where people come to work on projects of their own. The space may have an assortment of tools, ranging from the latest technology to hammers and saws. The spaces are open to all, and usually include equipment such as soldering irons and sewing machines, and more high-tech options such as laser cutters and 3D printers. They also give people a chance to meet others working in different disciplines, resulting in an exchange of ideas, as well as helpful advice.

Lacey MakerSpace was co-founded by Saint Martin's University, Thurston EDC & Center for Business Innovation, and the City of Lacey.

Tours of Lacey MakerSpace begin this Saturday, February 13, and continue every Saturday after that, from 10:00 am until 10:30 am. The facility is on Baran Drive Southeast in Lacey. Events like this are the perfect place for operators to distribute informative pamphlets created by brochure printing.
