Popular annual event quacks back to Lacey

An activity that puts the “fun” in “fundraising” is returning to Lacey.

The Lacey Rotary Duck Dash is back for the 35th time. The Dash is a family-friendly event and a major fundraiser for Rotary, which uses the proceeds to fund its local and international programs. Most of the money comes from raffles, with some impressive prizes.

Luv’s Cookies is donating $5,000, and DeTray’s Family Enterprises is providing a six-day vacation to Maui, Hawaii, worth $3,500. Other raffle prizes include a $2,500 diamond ring, a 2021 Kayo A200 Jackal ATV, and a gift certificate for a firepit worth $1,000. Six other organizations and individuals are donating $1,000 each.

In addition to the raffles, the event includes a kids’ bike giveaway, a wine and beer garden, a 5K fun run, a car show, vendors, entertainment, food booths, and a children’s area.

The drawing for the raffle prizes will be held at 4.00 pm, and winners need not be present to win, as their names will be shown on the website by 8.00 pm. Other big winners are those who will receive help from Rotary, thanks to the generosity of people who buy raffle tickets.

The Duck Dash will be held Saturday, June 1, from 11.00 am until 4.00 pm at the Thurston County Fairgrounds, and ducks are now on sale. When events like this are planned, organizers often work with flyer printing to create handouts for visitors, complete with a schedule.
