The Lacey City Council recently announced that it is seeking applications to fill two spots on the Planning Commission that are currently vacant. There is no time limit on the recruitment, as the vacancies will remain open until the spots are filled.
One of the positions must be occupied by a person who lives within the Lacey city limits. The second person need not live in the city, but must at least reside in the Lacey Urban Growth Area. Officials dealing with matters like this can use flyer printing to contact residents.
The Board of County Commissioners of Thurston County established the Urban Growth Area (UGA) in 1988, to delineate boundaries for growth in both the short and long terms. Considerations taken into account included what land use designations were already in existence; sites for residential developments; development patterns that were already in existence; providing Woodland Creek with environmental protection; and the quality of groundwater in the McAllister Springs Geologically Sensitive Area.
The Planning Commission is a nine-member body that makes recommendations with regard to long-range planning policies and goals that apply to both Lacey proper, and to areas outside the city limits that could seek to be annexed in future. The commission meets twice a month, at 7:00 pm on the first and third Tuesdays, at Lacey City Hall.
