Lacey to host Arbor Day giveaway

Lacey plans to celebrate 2018 Arbor Day by giving away seedlings, as it does every year.

The giveaway is first-come, first-served, and will be held until the scheduled end time, or until all the plants are gone, whichever comes first. The seedlings, which could be as tall as three feet, are limited to one per person. Families who would like more than one seedling are encouraged to turn up together.

Lacey is a ‘Tree City USA’, making it one of the first of Washington State's cities to win the honor. This year, 2018, is the 27th year in a row Lacey has won the award. The ‘Tree City USA’ designation is given by the National Arbor Day Foundation to communities that meet four standards: designating a Tree Board; passing an ordinance for the care of their trees; developing a budget to support the program; and celebrating Arbor Day.

Arbor Day in 2018 is April 27, but Lacey is celebrating early. The seedling giveaway is slated for April 14 at Huntamer Park, starting promptly at 10:00 am, and ending at 1:00 pm, or when all the plants are gone. Further information is available by calling the Lacey Parks and Recreation Department at 360-491-0857.

Events like this can be even more fun if organizers work with a banner printing company to create a sturdy banner for outdoor use, to decorate the venue.
