What's Happening in Lacey, WA…

The City of Lacey will soon be hosting a STEM fair.

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) initiatives reflect the fact that these subjects are the ones students will need to master if they are to work successfully in these fields. Teams and school clubs from throughout Thurston County will be at the fair to share their STEM projects, including demonstrations, kids' hands-on activities, displays, and more.

STEM lessons are designed to help students learn in specific ways. They focus on real-world issues and problems, students make use of the engineering design process in their lessons (steps include doing research and designing and building prototypes), lessons are hands-on, students work in teams and apply scientific and mathematical principles to the lessons, and they learn there can be more than one right answer to a problem. They also learn that failure is a great way to learn.

This year's STEM fair is slated for this Saturday, May 20, at Thomas W. Huntamer Park, on Woodland Square Loop in downtown Lacey. The fair hours are 10:00 am until 3:00 pm, and the event will be held no matter what the weather, but some robotics demonstrations might have to be modified.

Events like this often call for organizers to work with a flyer printing company, which can create a handout for fairgoers listing the groups, their projects, where they are located, and any other performances or demonstrations scheduled.
