Lacey and the eight other members of the Emergency Management Council of Thurston County, formed in 1993, have created a Hazards Mitigation Plan for the region. They’re now asking for public input on an Annex to the plan recently created.
The plan creates a mitigation strategy designed to reduce the risks caused by the most serious hazards threatening the area. These include landslides, earthquakes, floods, volcanic events, wildland fires, and severe storms, as well as other disasters. Such occurrences can cause long disruptions in services and cost all agencies and communities involved significant amounts of money. The Hazards Mitigation Plan breaks the cycle of disaster by identifying and then implementing actions that can be sustained over time, with the end goal of eliminating long-term risks to residents’ lives and property.
A public meeting is set for June 14, 2017, from 6 pm until 8 pm on Heritage Court SW, in Olympia, about five miles from Lacey. Residents are encouraged to attend to make comments about Lacey’s annex to the plan. Lacey residents who cannot attend in person are urged to look at the plan, and make their comments, online. An official survey form is available until June 19.
