Proper maintenance of stormwater ponds is crucial in an area that receives as much rain as the Pacific Northwest. To help residents in this task, the Stormwater Utilities of Lacey, Olympia, Tumwater, and Thurston County is holding a free workshop on the subject of stormwater pond maintenance.
Homeowners association (HOA) members from Thurston County, Tumwater, Olympia, and Lacey, as well as residents of these communities, are encouraged to attend.
At the workshop, participants will learn how to clean and maintain stormwater facilities in their neighborhoods. The will also be given lists of contractors and others who can assist them, and they will be able to practice filling out the annual maintenance reports local jurisdictions may require. Finally, participants will visit stormwater ponds in the local area to get hands-on experience in maintaining them.
Stormwater ponds are important tools that help stop local flooding, filter out pollutants that can enter the water after a storm, and help reduce erosion.
The workshop is scheduled for tomorrow, April 15, from 9:00 am until noon. The location is the Tumwater City Hall on Israel Road SW in Tumwater. Although the workshop is free, registration is required.
