People who miss the educational programs at the Lacey Museum now have another option to continue enjoying the facility.
The Parks and Recreation Department has closed the Museum due to ongoing health concerns, but the Museum has launched a series of Zoom events called “History Talks!” There are three left in the spring series.
The first program is “History Talks! A People’s History of the Seven Inlets of the Southern Salish Sea.” The program shares the history of the people of Squaxin Island, who trace their history back to the time the glaciers retreated.
The second webinar is “History Talks! The FBI and Candy Man: Monitoring Fred Haley, A Voice of Reason During Times of Madness.” The program details a period in the life of Fred Haley, an activist and civic leader who was placed under surveillance by the FBI in the 1950s for his support of civil rights, liberties, and workers' rights.
The final webinar is “History Talks! Thurston County Homefront During World War I,” a program on what life was like in Lacey during the First World War, with historian Jennifer Crook.
The first webinar is February 22, the second is set for March 10, and the third for April 8. All three will begin at 6:00 pm. A visit to the website to register reveals a striking Logo Design.
