Lacey lights up for the holidays

The City of Lacey is planning to celebrate the holidays in style.

The Lacey Parade of Lights and the Lighting of the Christmas Trees will take place on the same evening. Officials estimate the parade will take approximately 30 minutes, and since it is a rolling parade, intersections will reopen as soon as the last vehicle passes.

Individuals, organizations, clubs, and businesses are all expected to take part in the event. Participants are encouraged to deck out their vehicles with lots of lights, and commercial organizations can also use signage to advertise, but their decorations should be in keeping with the season. One of the units is the Santa Mobile provided by the Lacey Fire Department, which brings the elf himself to the city.

Officials also remind everyone that the parade is only for motorized vehicles, and there will be no pedestrians allowed, unless authorized ahead of time. Floats and trailers can also be used, but riders have to be safely secured. The parade is not judged, and is only for fun.

The parade will move north on Sleater-Kinney to 7th Avenue SE, and past Huntamer Park. The parade participants will not stop at the park, but disperse to avoid congestion at the tree lighting ceremony. Banner printing can be used to mark the route of events like this.

The events are scheduled for December 2, with the Parade of Lights rolling at 6:30 pm. The tree lighting ceremony at Huntamer Park will immediately follow the parade.
