What's Happening in Lacey, WA…

Washington State leads the nation in supposed Bigfoot sightings, and a recent event highlighted the way in which the mythical creature has become part of the state's culture.

The Lacey Museum was the sponsor of a recent event, ‘Bigfoot in Washington’, a talk given by Ryan Leisinger at Lacey City Hall. Leisinger, who created the WashingtonBigfoot.com website, talked about the cultural and historic importance of Bigfoot to the state. Events like this provide an opportunity for experts to distribute Business Cards.

In addition to the reported sightings of Bigfoot, the mountains and forests of the state have provided cover for the creature to hide. A number of people have become interested in studying the phenomenon, including famed naturalist John Muir, as well as former Governor Dan Evans, and researchers.

There are approximately a dozen events and conferences held in Washington every year, all with the theme of Bigfoot. Several counties have passed ordinances protecting the animal, and the state legislature has even considered passing legislation with regard to Bigfoot.

Leisinger's talk coincides with the “Sasquatch Revealed” traveling exhibit at the Lacey Museum. The exhibit has opened in Lacey courtesy of Christopher Murphy, a sasquatch expert from Canada. The exhibit features artwork and artifacts related to sasquatch, and is the biggest such collection ever assembled. The exhibit is open now and will remain in Lacey until August 31.
