Lacey area hair-raising event seeks donations

Throughout the month of December, a Lacey area barber school is helping kids who have lost their hair feel beautiful again.

The school is offering free cuts to anyone willing to donate 10 or more inches of their tresses to the “Locks of Love” program. Their contribution will be used to make wigs, and these will then be passed along to children who are going through cancer treatments or have lost their hair for another reason.

According to Locks of Love, while the organization greatly appreciates the generosity of anyone who makes a donation, there are certain requirements. It must be at least ten inches long, and permed or color treated hair may be accepted. The organizers say that people are welcome to donate their hair provided they understand that the manufacturer may not accept it.

The donations will be collected and passed along to a manufacturer, who will use them to craft custom wigs for kids. Those with grey hair are welcome to get involved, as their contributions will be sold to help offset the cost of crafting the hair pieces.

This sort of activity depends upon the support of the public to achieve success, and Print shops will have lots of ways to help spread the word. Flyers, Posters and other marketing materials provide a way to promote it to the community, and these can be paired with a social media campaign.
