Lacey recently switched to an odd-even schedule for watering, in order to reduce demand for water during the warmer months. The schedule is now in effect.
The City of Lacey's alternate-day watering is mandatory for outdoor landscapes and yards during the months of June, July, August, and September. Information about important policies like this can be disseminated using flyer printing.
City water customers whose addresses end in odd numbers (1, 3, 5, 7, and 9) are allowed to water only on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. Those whose addresses end in even numbers (0, 2, 4, 6, and 8) are allowed to water on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays only. There is no watering allowed on Fridays.
The watering schedule applies to vegetable gardens, perennial ornamental flowerbeds, annual ornamental flowerbeds, grass, and any other type of landscape outside a commercial building or a residence that requires regular maintenance. At present, there is no restriction on watering plants inside greenhouses, hanging baskets, or outdoor potted plants. Pressure washing and pool maintenance are also exempt.
Lacey officials are serious about conserving water. Residents who do not follow the schedule will be warned twice. If they violate the law a third time, they will be fined $125, while a fourth violation will earn them a $250 fine, and their water will be shut off. The Lacey City Council first approved the measure in 2006.
