Celebrating diversity in Lacey

A festival is coming up soon that illustrates the diversity that makes Lacey such an intriguing place to live or visit.

The Lacey Cultural Celebration is an annual event that recognizes the power found in diversity. People of differing backgrounds and cultures come together to make the community even stronger. The celebration offers live performances, vendors of all kinds, and information booths. So far, there are dozens of organizations planning to take part.

There are 18 performers scheduled to appear, including the Olympia Highlanders, and the Alaska Kuteeyaa Dancers. The Highlanders, which were founded in 1972, are a traditional pipe and drum band. They share Scottish culture and music throughout the region.

The Alaska Kuteeyaa Dancers are tribal members from the Aleut, Tsimshian, Haida, and Tlingit peoples of Alaska, and the Quileute and Muckleshoot tribes in Washington State. They offer the gift of their performances to audiences in a spirit of celebration and joy.

In addition to all the live entertainment, vendors offering products from tea to jewelry will be at the event, as will food vendors such as Lotus Kitchen and the Funnel of Love. Finally, information booths will be manned by such varied organizations as the Lacey Police Department and the Tacoma Highland Games.

The celebration is scheduled for March 4, from 10.00 am until 6.00 pm at St. Martin’s University. Organizers of events like this can use flyer printing to create a handout with a schedule of events for visitors.
