The Village Theatre in Issaquah recently announced the shows it will present as part of its 18th Annual Festival of New Musicals.
The event comprises readings of five musicals that are currently being developed. The festival allows audiences to give the production teams valuable feedback.
The shows are ‘Elysium’, ‘The Passage’, ‘Teddy & Max’, ‘Hansel & Gretl & Heidi & Günter’, and ‘The Homefront’. Also featured as part of the event is the Northwest Songwriters Showcase, a concert that presents original music written by composers in the Puget Sound area.
Elysium is a drama about an Ohio family that has to deal with the aftermath of keeping secrets for many years, while The Passage is a fairy tale about a little boy who has to save his father, who has been captured by the monster that lives in the basement. Teddy & Max”= are actually sisters, Theodora and Maxine, who form a singing duo in New York in the 1960s, and make their way in a man's world. Hansel & Gretl & Heidi & Günter is a twist on the classic fairy tale, and The Homefront is a rock and roll musical about women in the factories during the Second World War.
The readings and concert take place August 10, 11, and 12 at the Village Theatre in Issaquah. Full information is on the theater's website.
